The Second Letter of St. Peter Chapter 2

The Second Letter of St. Peter

 Chapter 2

1. But false prophets also among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive opinions. They will even deny the Master who bought them bringing swift destruction on themselves. 2. Even so, many will follow their licentious ways, and because of these teachers the way of truth will be maligned. 3. And in their greed they will exploit you with deceptive words. Their condemnation, pronounced against them long ago, has not been idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

(The Second Letter of St. Peter Chapter 2 verses 1 to 3)

Oh God my Father, throughout the years there have been many people in the Roman Catholic Church who preached teachings that were not according to the established teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. Many people raised issues about Your dual nature and of Your presence in the Eucharist, however, such people were of a test to the already existing teachings and many other holy people in the Roman Catholic Church such as St. John Chrysostom, guided by the Holy Spirit formulated guidelines for us to follow and to believe in that are watertight and valid up to this very day.

Fathers of the Church

The first 1000 years of the Church

4. For if God did not spare the angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of deepest darkness to be kept until the judgment; 5. and if he did not spare the ancient world, even though he saved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought a flood on a world of the ungodly; 6. and if by turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them to extinction and made them an example of what is coming to the ungodly, 7. and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man greatly distressed by the licentiousness of the lawless 8.(for that righteous man, living among them day after day was tormented in his righteous soul by their lawless deeds that he saw and heard), 9. then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trial, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment 10. especially those who indulge their flesh in depraved lust, and who despise authority. Bold and wilful, they are not afraid to slander the glorious ones, 11. whereas angels,  though greater in might and power, do not bring against them a slanderous judgment from the Lord.

(The Second Letter of St. Peter Chapter 2 verses 4 to 11)

Oh God my Father even though You are loving and caring, You are also just, and cannot turn away from our sins as if they had never happened Amen. As sinners, we will all experience the consequences of our sins on earth and even in the darkness of hell Amen which is a reality that exists as much as heaven, Amen. I thank You oh god for being loving and merciful Amen.

12. These people however, are like irrational animals, mere creatures of instinct, born to be caught and killed. They slander what they do not understand, and when those creatures are destroyed, they also will be destroyed, 13. suffering the penalty for doing wrong. They count it a pleasure to revel in the daytime. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their dissipation while they feast with you.

(The Second Letter of St. Peter Chapter 2 verses 12 to 13)

Oh God, my Father we are so different from the angels, they are so pure in Your presence and I am so non-pure as a human due to my frailties as a human. Although we have a brain we do not always use it to do good but to act in a sinful way. Mercy oh God on us Amen.

14. They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children! 15. They have left the straight road and have gone astray, following the road of Balaam son of Bosor, who loved the wages of doing wrong, 16. but was rebuked for his own transgression; a speechless donkey spoke with a human voice and restrained the prophet's madness.

(The Second Letter of St. Peter Chapter 2 verses 14 to 16)

Oh God, my Father I am sorry to say that in 2016 such people still exist and do much harm in their own circles and extended circles. It would have been better for them to leave Your body than to remain there and do harm to others. Even though You talk to us by means of many circumstances, and people at times we are so stubborn that we prefer our ways over Yours, my God and father Amen.

17. These are waterless springs and mists driven by a storm; for them the deepest darkness has been reserved. 18. For they speak bombastic nonsense, and with licentious desires of the flesh that they entice people who have just escaped from those who live in error. 19. They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption; for people are slaves to whatever masters them.

(The Second Letter of St. Peter Chapter 2 verses 17 to 19)

Oh God my Father during moments of crisis, the evil one continues to make the situation worse, by sending us situations that encourage to commit further acts of sin. If in such a situation we do not have You as the rock of our foundation, our situations become more dangerous and we end up becoming slaves of our sinful self, drives, compulsions and even addictions. Such negative drives offer us pleasure, however, such sources of pleasure have bitter endings that are resulting in the breakdown of both the person and one's family, thus endangering the life of that person and or family.

20. For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overpowered, the last state has become worse for them than the first. 21. For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandment that was passed on to them. 22. It has happened to them according to the true proverb, "The dog turns back to its own vomit," and, "The sow is washed only to wallow in the mud."

(The Second Letter of St. Peter Chapter 2 verses 20 to 22)

Oh God my Father, whenever we are tempted or inclined or maybe as a form of anger against oneself to go back to our old addictions or sins or negative practices that might include acts of self-harm, we are to stop and consider the fact that You, my God, have already healed us from such negative acts, and that when one door closes it will never open again if not according to our willful decision. We are to look at ourselves in our present state thank God for having delivered us out of our situations and then think if we really and truly would prefer to go back to our former life, instead of advancing to a better and more spiritual and physical productive state Amen.

Returning to your vomit

Oh God, my Father I feel such a hypocrite, first I seek to build trust and relationship and then I am instructed to tell this person that he needs to make plans to start a new life elsewhere. I feel as I have betrayed such a person. I pray that You heal me from such feelings Amen.

I would like to end this chapter with the following prayer:

Oh God my Father loving, caring and always true, I pray that You have mercy on us and our decisions. I thank You for loving me although my ways are not always Your ways. I pray that I will stick to following Your ways and never go back to my old self, that was the Vince who had no relationship with You. I pray that we always look forward and never back Amen.
